Quick trip to DC to visit the Air & Space Museum

Kyle at the Udvar-Hazy Center

Kyle had expressed an interest in visiting the National Air & Space Museum in DC again. (We went in 2014 but Kyle was much younger then.) It’s only a four hour or so drive, so Kyle and I hopped in the car for the drive down the day after Thanksgiving. (Suzanne stayed home.) We drove directly to the Udvar-Hazy Center at Dulles airport. This is cool as it’s a large hanger with many large plans (including the Enola Gay and a Concorde) as well as having the Space Shuttle Discovery. We then headed into the city, checking in to Holiday Inn Washington Capitol which was a fine hotel and super convenient, being literally a five minute walk from the A&S Museum. I hit up a couple of local breweries that evening while Kyle rested in the room. On Saturday, I did a wonderful morning run around the mall including a quick stop at the Lincoln Memorial. We then grabbed great some donuts at Good Company before heading to the main museum for our 10 o’clock entry. We enjoyed the museum but were a little disappointed that about a third was closed for renovation. (We should have checked this to be fair.) It was also quite busy which we kind of expected. After finishing up there around 1, we hit up Red Bear brewing for lunch before taking a rest at the hotel and then hitting up another couple of breweries near Howard University. On Sunday, we both woke up on the early side so hopped back in the car for the drive home, getting back around 10:30. It was a nice little trip. I especially liked spending the time just with Kyle.

I posted more photos as well.
